Day 1:Enjoy a leisurely start to the day with a 9:00am start. Todays touring is designed to highlight the diversity of Broken Hill, Australia’s first Heritage Listed city, as well as discovering the secrets of the Silverton area. We start the day by viewing some of Broken Hill’s heritage listed architecture, and exploring the diversity of parks, gardens, mines and homes in this outback oasis. Visit some of our famous art galleries, the Big Picture and the Line of Lode, before heading to Silverton, almost a ghost town, and the setting for movies such as Mad Max 2 and A Town Like Alice.  Enjoy a cold drink at the famous Silverton Hotel, marvel at the vast expanse of Mundi Mundi Plains, meet some of the artists at their quirky galleries and much more. Settle in for a great outback lunch at the Silverton Tea Rooms before heading to the spectacular Sculpture Symposium on the edge of Broken Hill for a final chance to take in our breathtaking landscape. This is one of Australia’s most renowned sculpture collections and an experience not to be missed. (CB,L,D)

Day 2:  Your guide from Tri State Safaris will pick you up at 8:00am to commence your first adventure! Today we travel to Mutawintji National Park, which is situated in the rugged Byngnano Ranges, with its beautiful gorges and creeks lined with majestic River Red Gums. Mutawintji means ‘place of green grass and waterholes’. The presence of shelter and water means this idyllic place is home to a wide variety of birds and wildlife. Among the gorges and cliffs are the secrets of an ancient culture. The Park is steeped in Indigenous Heritage and reveals examples of rock carvings, paintings and stencils that provide evidence of aboriginal occupation of the area that dates back more than 8000 years. Listen to the creation story of Mutawintji at the Cultural Centre then enjoy interpretive bush walks (easy - moderate) to see the Rock Engravings and Hand Stencil in the restricted access Historic Site. Day 3:
There are many picture postcard opportunities on this tour as you enjoy a day filled with natural and pastoral heritage exploring the massive Menindee Lake system and Kinchega National Park. Morning tea on the banks of Lake Parmarmaroo is a great introduction to the spectacular Menindee Lakes System, which is many times larger than Sydney Harbour. Travel through Kinchega NP, to see kangaroo, emu and abundant birdlife. Visit the historic Woolshed, then follow the Darling River as it winds through massive stands of Red Gums to Menindee township.

The first Europeans to visit the area followed the Darling River in search of pasture for their sheep. Menindee was once a thriving river port and the area is rich in the history of our early explorers. Burke and Wills and Charles Sturt’s exploration parties both spent time camped at Kinchega. Learn about the fascinating pastoral and aboriginal history of the area. Kinchega NP was once part of the Kinchega-Kars pastoral lease held by the Hughes family since 1870. At its grandest, the property extended from Menindee to Broken Hill and covered an area of over 800,000 acres.  Enjoy a picnic lunch on the banks of the Darling River, and marvel at the long shadows and spectacular colours of the late afternoon light, as we head back to the Silver City at the end of another wonderful day in Outback New South Wales.  (CB,L,D)
